Introduction to Røyndalism
Abstract
Røyndalism is a corrigible realist framework developed from the foundational work DET SOM ER. It begins from the distinction between what is and the linguistic, conceptual, institutional, and technical forms through which human beings represent what is.
Its purpose is to keep knowledge, language, representation, identity, systems, and practice answerable to what is through reference, correspondence, traceability, and correction. Reality Audit is the methodological form this takes in practical examination.
Status and purpose
This document provides the general introduction to Røyndalism. It clarifies what the framework is, the problem it addresses, the commitments it makes, and the conditions under which it should be tested and corrected.
It is not a substitute for DET SOM ER. The founding work is the primary source; this site develops the framework's theoretical, methodological, and practical articulation.
Problem statement
Human beings encounter actuality through mediation. Language, signs, categories, models, identities, roles, institutions, and technical systems organise much of what is seen and said. These mediations may be necessary and useful, but they may also be mistaken for what they represent.
When a representation is no longer held answerable to what it concerns, it may begin to govern what is permitted to count as actual. Reference weakens, correction becomes more difficult, and the frame may protect itself against what contradicts it.
Why the framework is needed
Røyndalism is not needed because actuality is absent. It is needed because human arrangements may lose their relation to actuality while continuing to operate as though that relation remained intact.
This problem arises in philosophy and science, but also in law, administration, media, education, technology, workplaces, and ordinary interaction. Names, categories, procedures, and authorities may all acquire greater weight than what they actually refer to.
- distinguish what is from what is said about what is
- make references and presuppositions traceable
- test whether models correspond to what they are used to explain
- identify when identity, system, or authority displaces self, matter, or actuality
- make correction possible without allowing the frame to shield itself from examination
Foundational commitments
The framework does not begin by demanding belief. It begins with accountability to what is and with the distinction between actuality and human representations of actuality.
Structure and relations among the principal parts
The principal components have different statuses and should not be presented as a single linear progression.
5.1 DET SOM ER
DET SOM ER is the founding work and primary textual source. It formulates the ground that the site develops and makes methodologically available.
5.2 Røyndalism
Røyndalism is the overall framework developing ontology, knowledge, language, the human being, systems, and practice from accountability to what is.
5.3 Corrigible Realism
Corrigible Realism is the philosophical and academic classification of the framework: realism without a claim to infallible access, and corrigibility without relativism.
5.4 Reality Audit
Reality Audit is the methodology for examining reference, presupposition, correspondence, traceability, capture risk, and the need for correction.
Scope and limits
Røyndalism is a foundational and audit framework. It does not automatically decide every empirical question, nor does it replace domain-specific expertise, measurement, documentation, or legal process.
The framework supplies criteria by which claims, models, and decisions remain open to control. It may expose unresolved presuppositions or failures of reference, but it must not be used as a shortcut to conclusions unsupported by the material.
Methodological orientation
Examination begins by identifying what is actually claimed, what the claim refers to, what material supports it, and what presuppositions connect the material to the conclusion.
It then examines whether language, model, role, procedure, or authority serves the matter, or whether the frame has begun to replace it.
Testing and correction
The framework must be tested under the same conditions it requires of other systems. If its definitions are unclear, its distinctions fail, or its method produces predetermined answers, this must be shown and corrected.
Criticism must nevertheless remain traceable. An objection should identify the formulation at issue, explain what fails, present the material that contradicts it, and state what correction follows.
- identify the specific claim
- show the reference or absence of reference
- make the presuppositions explicit
- distinguish error from uncertainty and insufficient basis
- propose a correction that is itself open to examination
How the site should be read
The Introduction presents the problem, purpose, and scope. Theory develops the philosophical position and core concepts. Reality Audit provides the methodology, standard, audit types, findings, and correction protocol. The Lexicon defines the terms, while the Map displays the relations among them.
The reader should be able to move from overview to detail without being forced through a linear chain. The site therefore represents relations rather than treating every component as a stage of one process.
