Education and Knowledge Communication
This document adapts Reality Audit to education, teaching, supervision, learning resources, and public knowledge communication. It tests whether selection, concepts, models, sources, disciplinary authority, assessment, and pedagogical practice remain answerable to reference, contradiction, and correction.

Abstract
Education introduces people to languages, concepts, models, methods, sources, and practices they cannot yet test fully on their own. Trust in teacher, discipline, institution, and learning resource is therefore necessary. The same asymmetry creates a special responsibility: teaching must distinguish what is observed, what is modelled, what is professionally established, what is disputed, and what remains open.
The document establishes a traceable education chain, requirements for mandate and learning goals, distinctions among concept, definition, model, and actuality, audit of curriculum and source selection, examination of teaching authority, learner categories, tests and grades, use of digital systems and artificial intelligence, formulation of findings under F1–F7, and correction through amendment, reassessment, changed teaching, and review of learning effect.
Purpose and scope
The purpose is to make the education and communication chain traceable from the disciplinary question and learning goal to selection of sources, concepts, models, teaching actions, assessments, learning effects, and correction. The document does not decide whether a teacher, learner, institution, or disciplinary tradition is good or bad as a whole.
The scope includes early childhood and school education, upper-secondary education, higher education, professional training, courses, continuing education, textbooks, digital learning resources, academic supervision, museums, public education, and other organised knowledge communication. Requirements must be adapted to age, rights, discipline, level, learning situation, and consequence.
Reality Audit does not presuppose that disciplinary authority, curriculum, model use, or assessment is oppressive or wrong. It begins with mandate, distinctions, and documentation, and may end in F1 — supported correspondence as readily as in uncertainty, insufficient grounds, error, capture risk, or capture identified.
The education chain and decisive distinctions
Education proceeds through several stages: purpose, curriculum, disciplinary selection, sources, concepts, models, representations, teaching action, practice, assessment, feedback, learning effect, and revision. Each stage may serve understanding but may also introduce simplification, power, selection, and loss.
The audit therefore distinguishes what the learner is to encounter or become able to do from the learning goal that formulates it; the concept from what it refers to; the model from the phenomenon; the grade from the learner; and delivered teaching from actual learning.

Mandate, learners, roles, and object of education
A defensible audit must bound who and what it concerns: a learning sequence, textbook account, assessment practice, supervision relation, particular course, or institutional process. It must also distinguish teacher, supervisor, assessor, author, institution, learner, student, and guardian.
Power asymmetry in education is real: the person who teaches or assesses controls access to language, tasks, criteria, and often formal consequences. This power may be necessary, but it requires visible mandate, limitation, reasons, contradiction, and correction.
Bounded audit unit
Identify the particular course, subject, learning goal, resource, assessment, or teaching sequence being examined.
Learners and rights
Identify age, level, accommodation needs, party status, rights, and safeguards without turning the category into the person.
Roles and responsibility
Distinguish teaching, supervision, assessment, grading, resource selection, management, and appeal, and identify who owns each task.
Purpose and learning goals
Make visible the overarching purpose and bounded learning goals the practice is intended to serve.
Disciplinary and legal grounds
Register curriculum, course plan, syllabus, professional standard, institutional rule, and other relevant norms with version and validity.
Assessment power
Identify who may grade, approve, fail, require revision, or affect later access.
Access to contradiction
Document how the learner can ask questions, obtain reasons, request correction, appeal, or obtain renewed assessment.
Limits and competence
Record what the audit cannot decide and which pedagogical, disciplinary, legal, or special-education competence is absent.
Curriculum, learning goals, source selection, and progression
A curriculum or syllabus must select. Selection is not distortion by itself, but it must be defensible in relation to purpose, level, disciplinary relevance, and progression. The audit tests whether the selection is presented as a bounded learning path or as if it exhausted the discipline and actuality.
Progression requires simplification and provisional models. A pedagogical simplification is defensible when it helps the learner move forward, when its limits can be made visible at the appropriate time, and when later teaching genuinely opens for correction and expansion.
Traceable selection
Document why topics, sources, examples, perspectives, and methods were selected and what relevant material was omitted.
Purpose correspondence
Test whether the selection serves the stated educational purpose rather than only test format, tradition, or available textbook.
Source hierarchy
Distinguish primary source, scholarly overview, textbook, popular communication, teacher notes, and generated material.
Progression
Show what is introductory, what is provisional simplification, and what is later to be qualified or replaced.
Perspective and counter-material
Make relevant disciplinary alternatives, historical development, counterarguments, and knowledge gaps visible at a level appropriate to the purpose.
Update and version
Record when curriculum, sources, and resources were selected and how later corrections or new knowledge are incorporated.
Access and comprehensibility
Test whether language, format, technology, and organisation give the actual target group meaningful access.
Transfer limit
Prevent a bounded instructional selection from being presented as the whole field or automatically valid in other contexts.
Concepts, definitions, language, translation, and knowledge claims
Education shapes access to actuality through language. Concepts may enable precise distinction, but may also be learned as empty labels or used to close questions. The audit tests whether definition, reference, use, and limitation remain connected.
Disciplinary terminology may be necessary and precise. It becomes problematic when the word replaces what the learner should be able to refer to, examine, or do. As far as the purpose permits, the learner should be able to move from term to example, source, observation, argument, or practice — and back again.
Definition type
Distinguish lexical, stipulative, operational, legal, disciplinary, and pedagogical definitions and show what each may establish.
Reference
Connect central terms to what they are used about through examples, contrasts, sources, observations, or practice.
Observation and interpretation
Distinguish what is registered or quoted from the teacher's, textbook's, or learner's interpretation.
Modality and strength
Distinguish may, suggests, supports, shows, requires, and proves, and match wording to the disciplinary grounds.
Presupposition
Test whether questions, tasks, or assessment formulations build in claims the learner is not permitted to examine.
Translation and register
Document central translation choices, disciplinary alternatives, and changes in modality, responsibility, or meaning.
Quotation and paraphrase
Mark source wording, summary, explanation, textbook account, and independent judgment.
Corrigible language
Enable definitions, terminology, and disciplinary formulations to be corrected without treating correction as personal attack or disloyalty.
Models, representations, examples, demonstration, and simulation
Models, maps, diagrams, narratives, metaphors, demonstrations, and simulations make it possible to work with what cannot be encountered directly or completely in the learning situation. They are pedagogically powerful precisely because they select and organise.
The audit does not require all models to be replaced by direct experience. It requires visibility concerning what the model represents, what it omits, which rules generate the output, its domain of validity, and what is claimed about actuality on its basis.
Object and purpose
Identify what the model or representation is used about and which learning task it is intended to serve.
Rule and provenance
Make visible the sources, rules, parameters, selections, and transformations carrying the representation.
Omission and idealisation
Show what is simplified, held constant, removed, or idealised.
Domain of validity
Bound the level, situation, and question to which the model may be applied.
Alternative representation
Show relevant alternative models or perspectives where they change understanding or conclusion.
Registration and generation
Distinguish measured or observed material from simulation, illustration, reconstruction, and generated content.
Assignment to actuality
Test whether the ontological or causal claim exceeds what the model and validation can bear.
Pedagogical exit
Enable the learner to see where the model ends, what it may be tested against, and how it may be corrected.

Disciplinary authority, pedagogical power, trust, and academic freedom
Learning often requires the learner provisionally to give weight to a teacher, textbook, institution, or disciplinary tradition before the grounds can be tested fully. Such epistemic trust is not blind belief; it is defensible when mandate, competence, sources, and later independent examination are visible.
Pedagogical authority also includes power to select topics, ask questions, allocate speech, define assessment criteria, and issue formal results. This power must not turn assent to the teacher's interpretation, identity, or authority into a condition of academic approval where several professionally defensible answers exist.
Mandate and competence
Make visible the authority's role and disciplinary competence and which questions fall outside the mandate.
Grounds before status
Show sources, argument, method, and uncertainty where the learning level permits rather than allowing title or institution to stand alone.
Right to disciplinary question
Distinguish respectful participation from required assent and protect relevant questions, counterarguments, and documented disagreement.
Disagreement and assessment
Prevent disciplinary disagreement by itself from becoming behavioural defect, lack of loyalty, or lower assessment.
Academic freedom and responsibility
Protect disciplinary exploration while requiring teacher and institution to answer for source use, relevance, rights, and correction.
Power and dependency
Register where assessment, supervision, funding, or later access makes the learner especially dependent on the same person or environment.
Alternative control
Provide access to reasons, reassessment, appeal, or independent disciplinary review where the consequence requires it.
Correction by authority
Document how teacher, assessor, learning resource, and institution correct their own errors and make the correction visible to those affected.
Assessment, tests, grades, feedback, and records
Assessment turns a bounded performance into material for interpretation. It may support learning, qualify access, and document competence, but cannot register the whole understanding or person. Validity requires that the task, criterion, and format actually test what they are used to conclude.
Grades and standardised tests may be necessary summaries. Risk arises when the result is used without visible uncertainty, when one format governs all teaching, or when the label gains lasting priority over new performance and corrected information.
Purpose of assessment
Distinguish formative assessment, final assessment, certification, ranking, admission, and pedagogical mapping.
Criteria and visibility
Make relevant criteria, weighting, and requirements available before or during the work where the format permits.
Validity
Test whether task and performance provide relevant grounds for the competence or conclusion assigned.
Reliability and variation
Examine assessor variation, task sampling, random conditions, technical failure, and need for multiple grounds.
Individual and category
Prevent grade, diagnosis, level group, or earlier result from replacing new and relevant documentation.
Feedback
Separate reasons for the result from judgment of the person and provide concrete information about grounds, error, strength, and further work.
Contradiction and reassessment
Document how the learner may identify error, misunderstanding, missing grounds, or conflict of interest and obtain real review.
After-effect and data use
Limit how long and for what purpose results, logs, behavioural data, and learning analytics may govern later decisions.
Digital learning systems, learning analytics, and artificial intelligence
Digital learning platforms and artificial intelligence may expand access, variation, feedback, and support. They may also make ranking, data collection, automated assessment, recommendation, and generated content less visible to teacher and learner.
The audit must identify which data are collected, which model or rule produces the output, which human beings remain responsible for use, and how error, bias, privacy, copyright, and uncertainty may be corrected. A system cannot bear final responsibility for pedagogical or formal assessment.
Purpose and necessity
Define which pedagogical problem the system is intended to solve and whether less intrusive alternatives exist.
Data and consent
Register data types, source, access, retention, sharing, legal basis, and what the learner may genuinely choose.
Model and output
Make visible which model, rule, or statistic produces recommendation, ranking, text, or assessment.
Human responsibility
Identify who reviews output, may override the system, corrects error, and answers for consequences.
Generated content
Distinguish source-based material from synthetic text, image, sound, or code and require control of claim, provenance, and reference.
Adaptation and profiling
Test whether personalisation supports learning or locks the learner to a modelled profile or previous performance.
Equality and access
Examine whether technology, language, disability, economy, or data grounds create systematic differences in access or assessment.
Correction and exit
Provide meaningful routes to access, human review, correction, deletion, appeal, and suspension where the system does not hold.
Uncertainty, disciplinary disagreement, dialogue, and corrigible learning
Education should not require all knowledge to be presented as uncertain. Some matters are well supported, others disputed, and others open. The pedagogical task is to mark the difference without turning uncertainty into equality among all claims.
Corrigible learning requires both learner and teacher to change position when the grounds change. Error should be correctable without identifying the person with the error, and disciplinary disagreement should be tested through sources, argument, and method rather than status or majority alone.
Knowledge status
Mark what is directly documented, professionally supported, disputed, hypothetical, normative, or unresolved.
Proportionate uncertainty
Make uncertainty visible to the degree relevant without undermining well-supported knowledge through artificial balance.
Disciplinary disagreement
Distinguish genuine disciplinary disagreement from misinformation and assess argument by grounds, competence, and testability.
Questions and dialogue
Create channels where precise questions receive grounds, uncertainty, or deferred answer rather than mere assertion of authority.
Error as learning material
Use documented errors to show how examination and correction work without turning the error into the learner's identity.
Correction log
Make material corrections in resources, tasks, assessments, and teaching visible to those who received the original account.
Renewed examination
Define when new documentation, new performance, or renewed professional assessment may change an earlier conclusion.
Learning effect
Review whether correction and changed teaching actually improve understanding, action, or access — not merely whether the measure was completed.
Combining audit types
Education and knowledge communication are an application domain, not one audit type. A case may contain accurate subject matter but unfair assessment; a useful model but overextended ontological wording; or open teaching but a digital system that locks the learner to a category.
Each audit-type finding requires its own material. A language error is not automatically authority capture, and weak learning effect is not automatically proof of bad intention or system failure.

Findings, correction, safeguards, and review
Findings must remain bounded to what the audit examined. An incorrect textbook formulation is not automatically a finding concerning the whole discipline; an unfair grade is not automatically proof that the teacher is incompetent; and a good result is not automatically proof that the teaching process is defensible.
Correction must reach the stage where the deviation arose and those affected. A silent change in a digital learning resource may not be sufficient where learners or assessors continue to rely on the original account.
Correct the proper stage
Correct the concept, source, model, assessment, record, decision, or teaching action at which the error arose.
Visible correction
Connect material correction to the original resource version, task, assessment grounds, digital resource, or communication.
Reassessment
Provide renewed and independent examination where error in criteria, grounds, impartiality, or process may have affected a formal consequence.
Bounded measure
Choose the least intrusive measure capable of correcting the documented error and effect.
Privacy and dignity
Correct the matter without unnecessary disclosure of performance, diagnosis, identity, conflict, or personal data.
No retaliation
Questioning, appeal, disciplinary disagreement, error reporting, or requests for reasons must not by themselves produce adverse assessment or reduced access.
System learning
Where the deviation arises from curriculum, template, technology, or institutional routine, test whether change reduces the same risk in later cases.
Closure and review
Define responsibility, deadline, effect measure, side effect, possible rollback, and criteria for closure.
